  • Learn a comprehensive framework for defining, planning, and implementing projects of any size, in any organization.
  • Understand the role of project sponsors to provide governance and support within projects

Pre-Definition Activities

  • Make the priority of this project clear within the existing project portfolio
  • Develop the project charter to clearly communicate scope and purpose
  • Learn a systematic process for decision-making to aid in effective sponsorship

Project Definition

Once the project is approved by management, the project sponsor must provide appropriate guidance as the team begins to assemble the detailed plan.

  • Provide guidance to obtain a clear project statement, specific objectives, a detailed work breakdown structure, and comprehensive resource estimates
  • Support the project team as they identify and remove definition roadblocks, communicate progress to senior management, and resolve issues
  • Ensure that a project manager with a good fit of technical and people skills is selected

Project Planning

Work with the project team to ensure that a schedule is created that can be implemented and that risks are understood, can be managed, and have been communicated.

  • Provide guidance for resource negotiation and assignment, resolve anticipated schedule issues, and keep both risks and opportunities in mind
  • Support the project team as they identify and remove planning roadblocks, communicate progress to senior management, and resolve issues
  • Help establish a work environment that fully supports delivery of the project results

  • Ensure development and implementation of comprehensive communication plans
  • Learn a simple-but-effective process for managing the involvement of others
  • Identify where resistance may occur, then work with others to remove barriers

Project Implementation

  • Provide guidance for progress monitoring and communication, help to assess and guide resolution of significant issues affecting time, cost, and performance.
  • Support the project team as they identify and remove implementation roadblocks, communicate progress to senior management, and resolve issues
