Our Solution
This workshop works you through all phases of a shut, including definition, planning, implementation and restart. It will cover the acclaimed KT methods and skills that are essential to enhance and support your shutdown team while ensuring workforce safety. Clients that utilize KT STO achieve significant and sustainable improvements in shut outcomes, including a major boost in team morale.
Definition
Communication channels are established, objectives and boundaries for all activities are defined, the scope of the project is outlined including both decommissioning and restart activities, and initial resource planning is completed. This is the first opportunity to establish the broad reach of this event and ensure appropriate stakeholder involvement.
Planning
At the core of all successful shuts is precise understanding of tasks, accountability and timeline. At this phase, balanced metrics are developed and current business processes are aligned to support the STO.
Implementation
The controlled process of instituting work packages includes communication, issue resolution, risk management, and finally return to operational status. Systems are put in place to carefully track progress and costs, ensuring all work is completed within specification, within timeline and on budget.

We build capability
STO addresses the plant environment—its culture, systems, work procedures, and human resources. By identifying obstacles as well as opportunities, it promotes effective problem solving and decision-making. This approach often leads to restructuring the performance and interaction of people, machines, production processes, and management systems. By creating an environment of sustainable improvement, productivity and quality goals are easier to attain.
Our goal is to build true capability within your people and organization. This is not achieved by skill development alone. Adoption is the driver of results. That’s why we work with you to maximize the ROI from your “people investment” by:
- Clarifying your capability development objectives and how they tie to your business success
- Identifying areas of emphasis for development and how the new skills will be applied inside your business
- Helping you identify critical elements in your company’s performance environment that support or hinder the capability development process
- Pre- and post-skill development support and coaching to ensure we maximize the skills transfer from the “workshop room” into the real world
