Program Leader Development (Train-the-Trainer)

Maximizing capability transfer

Program Leaders are equipped to lead workshops within your organization. These leaders play a critical role in developing and implementing programs that drive sustainability and align the organization for success.

Our "Train-the-Trainer" program has proven to be one of the most effective methods for embedding Kepner-Tregoe Clear Thinking capabilities into an organization. The Leader Development Institute (LDI) is an intensive skill development experience that provides in-depth concept knowledge, and instructor training. This experience prepares select employees to become KT Program Leaders, certified to conduct in-house KT workshops.

KT intentionally uses the term Program Leader rather than instructor or trainer because the responsibilities include activities outside of the typical workshop environment. Program Leaders also serve as rational thinking consultants and "change agents."

Value to your organization

  • Maximizing in-house skill development capability
  • Adding advanced process skills to your teams
  • Ability to tailor the workshop for different audiences, provide authentic examples and experiences related to the participants’ own environment
  • Maximize results from investment into skill development

Our Solution

An LDI is an intensive experience that provides participants with in-depth concept knowledge and instructor training capabilities. It is a key part of a larger Program Leader development process that begins with the identification of qualified candidates and ends with a successful “first teach.”

Although the LDI is a challenging experience, most Program Leaders report that it brings additional value to their organizations and an awareness of new talents and thinking processes that result in a powerful, and often life- and career-enhancing experience.

Step One

The first step to becoming a Program Leader is attendance at an "end-user" workshop taught by a Kepner-Tregoe professional (e.g. KT Problem Solving & Decision Making). During the workshop, Program Leader candidates become familiar with the individual Kepner-Tregoe processes, apply them to real job issues, and observe the roles and responsibilities of the instructor.

Step Two

After successfully completing the workshop, candidates are interviewed by a Kepner-Tregoe professional and selected based on pre-set criteria.

Step Three

Attendance at an LDI is the third step in the Program Leader process. The LDI is usually about a 10-day commitment, depending on the needs of the group. Participants spend eight or more hours a day in classroom training and teaching practice, and on average, an additional four hours are spent preparing in the evening. The LDI is an intense but extremely rewarding learning experience that allows participants to establish a deeper conceptual understanding of the four processes and an ability to apply the processes back on the job. And just as important, participants develop and refine their skills as classroom instructors and process facilitators.

Step Four

Returning from an LDI, Program Leader candidates spend extensive time preparing for their first in-house workshop (usually requires 40 or more hours). A Kepner-Tregoe professional is present during this first teach for guidance, assistance, and to ensure that the program is properly presented. A successful first teach allows the candidate to become certified as a Program Leader.

We build capability

Our goal is to build true capability within your people and organization. This is not achieved by skill development alone. Adoption is the driver of results. That’s why we work with you to maximize the ROI from your “people investment” by:

  • Clarifying your capability development objectives and how they tie to your business success
  • Identifying areas of emphasis for development and how the new skills will be applied inside your business
  • Helping you identify critical elements in your company’s performance environment that support or hinder the capability development process
  • Pre- and post-skill development support and coaching to ensure we maximize the skills transfer from the “workshop room” into the real world
